ABOUT THE ARTIST

Duddley Diaz is an artist based in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. He was born in Manila, Philippines. He attended the University of the Philippines where he obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Sculpture. Right after his BFA he was awarded a scholarship by the Italian Government to study in the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy in the School of Sculpture. After maintaining his scholarship with honors, he practiced as a sculptor and lived in Italy for more than 20 years. He has received important commissioned works both in Italy and the Philippines. He has participated in numerous international solo and group exhibitions. In Manila he had several solo shows in Galleria Duemila. In 2009 Duemila together with the Vargas Museum the book, The Art of Duddley Diaz, was published in time for the exhibit The Messenger of the Gods. He has exhibited in a solo exhibit at the Washington Gallery in Cardiff, Wales to name a few. In 2020 his monumental sculpture Haliya was installed in front of the Philippine Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo. He has received grants like the Freeman Full Fellowship Grant and awards.He has been recognized by the Philippines with the Presidential Award of Merit and Patnubay sa Sining Award for Sculpture. In the Twin Cities he has exhibited in the Rosalux Gallery, Form+Content Gallery and the SooVac Visual Art Center. His art deals with mythology and his Filipino cultural heritage. With his heritage he seeks to connect with the diverse cultural settings in the different countries where he has lived. With this he presents a personal yet comprehensive view of the complexities of human existence in his sculptures.
